The Sales VP’s Hardest Question: Why Isn’t This Rep Prospecting?
When prospecting activity drops, the easiest conclusion is that the salesperson is not working hard enough. Sometimes that is true. But sometimes the real problem is that prospecting has become a grind: search for companies, research the account, find the right contact, figure out why the company might care, then send an email that may never get answered.
A good Sales VP needs to separate effort problems from process problems. Is the rep avoiding the work, or is the work poorly designed? Are they getting weak lists with no reason to call? Are they spending too much time researching? Are good opportunities arriving without clear priority or context?
AI can remove a lot of the friction around prospecting by helping identify strong-fit companies, surface signals of change, summarize why the opportunity may matter, and prepare relevant contacts and context. That does not eliminate the need for discipline. It makes it much easier to see whether the real issue is effort or the system surrounding the rep.
Intercept Advantage helps Sales VPs put better opportunities in front of their teams so prospecting starts with a reason to engage—not just another name on a list.
